A brilliant abstraction of a whale in profile, Sruli Recht's 'Whalet' is crafted from a single piece of laser-cut Nile perch skin, which has been folded into shape and hand tethered with a black oxidized rivet. In keeping with Recht's holistic design process, the packaging cleverly references this concept as well, the wallet lying inside a pop-up box, he notes, as "in the mouth of a Leviathan rising from the waves."

This particular species of perch is caught in Lake Victoria by the fishermen of the surrounding countries Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, then shipped to Iceland where the skins are tanned. The perch leather used here features an open-scaling finish, which lends the wallet a fairly coarse, though incredibly soft and pliable, surface.
